Marta & Capodimonte
Marta
Marta is situated in the southern part of Bolsena Lake and surmounted by a majestic tower wich used to be part of the imposing fortress built by Pope Urbano IV in the thirteenth century.
On the main square of the village, the elegant Farnese Palace, Renaissance style.
Capodimonte
Not far from Marta, also on the southern shore of the Lake Bolsena, on a small rocky peninsula rises the village Capodimonte.
It is dominated by “ la Rocca”, a Palace-Fortress erected for Pier Luigi Farnese -end of the XV beginning of the XVI century- after a project of Antonio da Sangallo the Younger.
Archeological sites and very ancient necropolis were found all around the area. The beautiful and audacious Giulia Farnese was born in this paradise, surrounded by the deep blue waters of the lake.
Capodimonte is also famous for the good Cannaiola wine produced here following old methods, and for fish.
